About the Cyrus Vance Awards

The Cyrus Vance Awards were created by the Office of the Secretary of Education and the Arts in 2001 to honor West Virginia educators who best exemplify Vance’s dedication to the understanding of international issues and affairs and to promote greater international understanding among West Virginia students.

Initially the awards were bestowed on individuals in higher education; however, K-12 schools are now encouraged to participate. Annually, four Cyrus Vance Awards are presented to educators or educational organizations that demonstrate a collaborative partnership between a K-12 organization and a postsecondary organization. Winners receive a monetary grant award to advance their endeavors in the field of international education.
