The Cabinet Secretary of Education and the Arts provides Governor Joe Manchin with information and counsel on issues concerning education, the arts and culture in West Virginia. Secretary Goodwin also represents Governor Manchin on numerous boards and commissions. The Secretary's office operates a number of programs and maintains close relationships with nearly every important state and national education entity.
