Joe Manchin today announced an event that will recognize the past winners of the West Virginia’s Golden Horseshoe Contest.  The reunion, scheduled for Friday, June 19, 2009, will be only the second time that past-winners have officially gathered on the Capitol grounds and will feature activities, including a VIP tour of the newly renovated State Museum.</description>

<description>History enthusiasts gathered on Thursday, March 5, in the Norman L. Fagan West Virginia State Theater of the Cultural Center for the awards ceremony that kicked off a successful day of celebrating West Virginia history. Secretary of Education and the Arts Kay Goodwin was assisted by Dr. Robert S. Conte, chairman, and Dr. Charles Ledbetter, vice chairman of the West Virginia Archives and History Commission, in presenting History Hero awards to 43 individuals from around the state for their grassroots-level contributions to the preservation, promotion and perpetuation of the state’s rich history. City, county and state historical, preservation and genealogical groups and museums provided nominations for the awards. A complete list of this year’s recipients, along with a brief explanation of their contributions, is enclosed in the attachment to this e-mail. Lewis won $200 plus an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. for the national finals on April 26-28.</description>

<description>The historic courtroom at West Virginia Independence Hall (WVIH) Museum in Wheeling will echo with the sounds of Celtic music on Friday, March 6, at 6:30 p.m., when the band Gallowglass will perform instrumental and vocal tunes on traditional acoustic instruments in an evening concert. The program is free and open to the public.
The concert at WVIH marks the unofficial beginning of the Wheeling Celtic Celebration, which will take place on Saturday, March 7, at the Wheeling Artisan Center, 1400 Main St.</description>

Clifford as part of its Black History Month celebration and to pay tribute to Clifford who is one of 12 civil rights pioneers announced as honorees on the February 2009 Commemorative Stamp Set being issued by the U.S. Postal Service. In addition, between the films there will be kids’ craft activities, a Jupiter Jump which is an inflatable room enclosed with net walls so that spectators can watch kids jumping around, and a Chuggy Choo-Choo, an inflated 42-foot train that kids can explore.
